Davoud Emdadian (1944 Tabriz – 2005 Paris)He was born in 1944 in Tabriz, Iran, started painting during his early years. he continued his studies at the faculty of Decorative Arts of Tehran University. In 1975, he got his BA and went to Paris to continue his studies and education. He remained in Paris and lived there and continued his career as a professional painter. Emdadian got his degree from Sorbonne in Visual Arts. He received more than tens international prizes. From his first exhibition in 1973 at the Shir-o-Khorshid Hall, in Tabriz until his death he held more than 100 solo and group exhibitions in Persia [Iran], France, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Hungary, Turkey, …. More than 13 of his exhibitions were held at the Cite International des Arts in Paris. Emdadian was a wonderful painter, although he worked in all fields and materials but during all these years he was known for his natural landscapes. His paintings are mostly in large pieces, in oil on canvass and influenced by the mid-19 century spirit of the realism school. But the nature of his works, especially in his “Tree” collections was special, unique and symbolic. His trees in fact symbolize his admiration of nature and life, glorify the power and perfection of life and supernatural powers, manifesting tranquillity, and stillness. Sometimes his trees were mystic and grotesque. In observing his colourful palette, his loyalty to realism as well as the variety of his selected colours gave a modern approach to his realism. Maybe his works in the first glance resembled realist painters such as Corot, Corbet and the Barbizon school, but the magnitude and glory of the green in his trees sometimes covered 4/5th of the canvas. His works were well appreciated and he himself lived away from the hues and cries.
